Scott Pye puts the MTU Falcon FG X into the Top 15 at Barbagallo Raceway

May 1, 2015

Perth, Western Australia, 01.05.15: Two one hour practice sessions greeted the 25 car V8 Supercar field at Barbagallo Raceway near Perth today. Following a productive test day in Queensland prior to the event, DJR Team Penske’s Scott Pye finished the second session in 15th position sighting good progress with the car.

The unique Perth track surface is very abrasive and tyre degradation is always high. With teams running previously used tyres during practice, it was hard to gauge which team had really mastered the 2.42 km layout.

Pye finished the first session in P16 on the Dunlop ‘hard’ tyre where many drivers had switched to the soft compound late in the session.

A visit to the sand trap for Scott at the beginning of the second session saw a Red Flag and cost the MTU Falcon some track time. Pye recovered well and completed 22 laps for a 15th place.

“With everyone on different tyres it is a little hard to know just where we are. Some of the things we tried on the car worked, but I made a few mistakes ending up in the gravel trap at one point. The track seems to have quite low grip at the moment and it will be interesting to see if it will clean up over the weekend.

“I don’t think many people put in a long run today. We did a good run at the end of P2 and I felt reasonably pleased with the tyre degradation, but over the two 25 lappers tomorrow I’m sure it will be different again. Today was a good day overall with plenty of running, but I don’t think many people will be reading too much into it.”
